Junnikkala Oy was founded in 1960 in Kalajoki and has since grown into a significant player in the wood processing industry. Today, Junnikkala is a modern family business delivering high-quality timber to domestic and international markets, with a focus on sustainable development and innovative solutions in wood product processing. In 2023, the company's third sawmill was completed in Oulu. With this exceptional investment, totaling approximately 80 million euros, a state-of-the-art sawmill was established in Oulu. With the Oulu sawmill operational, the company now produces a total of approximately 750,000 m³ of finished sawn timber annually.
Finnos supplied all the necessary scanners for the new Oulu sawmill: the Finnos Fusion X-ray scanner for log sorting, the Finnos 1D for log turning in saw feeding, the Finnos Board Scanner for green sorting, and the Finnos Board Scanner and Finnos Moisture Meter-4 for dry sorting.
A distinguished player with a skilled team and a wide product range
Antti Kyröläinen joined the Oulu project at a very early stage in 2022 and has been one of the key figures leading the project to completion. Now that the project is complete, Antti has moved into the role of plant manager in Oulu, responsible for the operational management of the entire sawmill.
Antti explains that many factors supported the choice of Finnos as the supplier of scanners for the Oulu project. “In recent years, Finnos has established itself as a solid player in Finland, especially in the field of X-ray technology, and we were already familiar with their skilled team. Another significant factor was that we could get a comprehensive range of scanners from Finnos under one roof, which was cost-effective and will also simplify our operations going forward.”
Smooth implementation and a desire to continue development
Antti particularly appreciates the smoothness of the sales process and implementation with Finnos. “Finnos has responded quickly and efficiently to all problems, and the installations were completed on schedule,” says Antti. “We have been very satisfied with the quality of the scanners, and the accuracy has been at least what we expected.”
“I am happy to recommend Finnos as a partner. I appreciate their reliability and the thought and finishing that goes into their products. A builder of a new sawmill also values Finnos’s enthusiasm for development. The service has not ended with the delivery of the product; they want to continue development and improve their products. For that, a strong thanks,” says Antti.
